WHAT IS HOT MAIL?
Hotmail is one of the world’s first free web-based email service from Microsoft in which users can access it from a web browser anywhere in the world. The name Hotmail was chosen as a result of the possibilities ending in “-mail” since it incorporated the letters HTML, the markup language which is used to fabricate web pages and to intensify HTML within its name. The original spelling of the email service was Hotmail.
WHO FOUNDED THE HOTMAIL?
Hotmail was founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith, an entrepreneur, and CEO of Proximex respectively. It was launched commercially on July 4, 1996, which portraits “freedom” from ISP-based email and it has the potential to access the user’s inbox from anywhere in the world. Bhatia and Smith designed Hotmail while living in Mountain view, California with headquartered in Sunnyvale.
HOTMAIL TO OUTLOOK:
Hotmail was sold to Microsoft in December 1997 for $400millions and Microsoft renamed it as MSN Hotmail. Later it was rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail as a part of Windows Live Suite Products. In 2003, Microsoft changed the email service to Outlook.com. Before selling Hotmail to Microsoft, Bhatia was furnished $160 million by Bill gates for the company. As per 1999 statistics, Hotmail became the world’s largest webmail services with more than 300 million active users.
